Live Virtual Conferencing Learning Activity: Mystery Number Skype
1. When you get ready to play Mystery Number Skype, everyone, including the teacher, needs a hundreds chart, dry erase marker, and sock eraser.
2. The class will work together to choose one number on our hundreds chart. For example: 63. Keep this number in mind so that you can help the class answer questions about it.
3. The class will work together to come up with five or more questions that we could ask the other class to figure out their mystery number. For example, "Is your number even?" All questions can only be answered with a "yes" or a "no".
4. The teacher will use her computer to connect through Skype with another class outside of your school to play Mystery Number Skype.
5. As the Mystery Number Skype sessions begins, we will go first to ask our questions. After we correctly guess the other class' mystery number, it will be their turn to ask us questions about our number.
6. As we determine which numbers to eliminate from the answers to our questions, we will cross them off those numbers on our hundreds chart. For example, if the class responds with a "yes" to our question "Is your number even?", then we will cross off all the odd numbers.
7. After we successfully guess the correct mystery number you will earn your Mystery Number Skype badge for your participation. It will be emailed to you. Great job using the clues, your number sense and listening skills to guess the correct number!
Summary: You played an important part in helping our class guess the mystery number, think of questions to ask in order to gain information, and show your understanding of numbers. This virtual learning activity also showed the other class that we can visibly work together to embark on a common endeavor.
